4th Grade Sight Word Domino Game

Games, games, games! My kids I tutor love when we play games. Playing games is a way in which they can learn while having fun. They often forget that they are learning new skills. Students learn to better comprehend text they read and recognize words without sounding them out.

Use this 4th grade Sight Word Domino game with your rising 4th grader or current 4th grader.

How to play:

One player will pass out the dominos around the group playing.

The last domino will not go to a player, but will be turned up so that the players can see the words. The player to the right of the player that passed out the dominoes will read one of the words to start the game.

The player that has that word in their hand will read the next word from the domino they have. The player will lay the domino down next to the one on the table. Players will continue to play until another play can not be made. The player with the least cards in their hand is the winner.

Have fun playing 4th Grade Sight Word Domino Game!

Puzzles

I love puzzles! Cross word, word search, seek and find puzzles are all my favorite. The children I tutor get excited when they put puzzles together. They think they are playing, but they are also learning. They learn problem solving skills, hand-eye coordination, and memory skills.

Have a conversation with your child as they are putting the puzzle together. Encourage your child to tell you about the puzzle pieces. Example questions and prompts are provided under the following puzzles.

*Ask your child to name the types of transportation. ( It is ok to use the word transportation, just explain what transportation means.)

* What color is the police car? (point to the color you would like them to name.)

* Which vehicle carries children to school?

* Which animal roars?

* How many animals are in the puzzle?

* Which animal is the tallest/ shortest?

Puzzles are not just for little people. Puzzles can also be helpful for older children as well. There are many different puzzles that can help with different school related topics.

*What states boarder North Carolina?

* What is the capital of Indiana?

* Name two states that boarder the Atlantic Ocean.

There are so many option when finding puzzles here are links to puzzles that are similar to the ones pictured. Transportation, animals, and United States

Have fun putting together puzzles this weekend!

Volunteers in the Classroom

Teachers,

Do you have volunteers that want to help in your classroom? Are you at a loss when figuring out what to ask them to help with? I often did not know what to ask volunteers to help with in my 5th grade classroom. I decided to make a list of task volunteers could help with.

1. Allow a student that needs extra practice reading go to the library. They can read to the volunteer for 15 or 20 minutes.

2. The volunteer could read one of their favorite books to the class.

3. Have them place any papers that need to go home in student folders.

4. Make copies or laminate materials for you.

5. Help monitor at recess or during lunch time.

6. Design and help put up a new bulletin board.

7. Help to disinfect tables and chairs at the end of the day.

8. Write to students in their writing journals.

9. Prepare materials for art projects.

10. Help students to learn multiplication tables.

                        3x9        7x5

If you do not have volunteers in your classroom you can send home the following Parent Volunteer Form. Parents often want to help at schools, but do not know where to start.

Parents,

Teachers can always use an extra set of hands or eyes in the classroom. Volunteering in your child's classroom can be a great help to their teacher. Teachers often carry task home such as cutting out materials, grading paper, and putting together folders. Ask your child's teacher how you could help out in their classroom.

Unicellular and Multicellular Organism Task Cards

Teachers

I love to get the kids ups and moving. Using task cards is a great way to do that. I place the task cards around the room in places the students can easily access. I then play fun music for them to work to. One set of task card I use is unicellular and multicellular organisms task cards. The set consists of questions with multiple choice answers. A student sheet and answer key are provided.

Task cards are very versatile. They can also be used in small groups, part of your instruction, or as a review. Give them a try if you have never used them before.

Parents

Place the cards around the house or in just one room. Your child to locate them and answer the questions on the cards. Once they have found all of the card, check with the provided answer key.

Unicellular and Multicellular Organisms

Teachers

Do you enjoy teaching unicellular and multicellular organisms as much as I do? I found that when I started teaching the topic, it was hard to find resources. I could find plenty of resources on plant and animal cells. So that lead me to create some of my own.

I created the following resource for my 5th grade science classroom. Student are able to read the unicellular and multicellular organisms passage and answer the comprehension questions.

This resource can be used to supplement learning, homework, or for students that finish early.

Parents

Have your child read the passage to strengthen their understanding of unicellular and multicellular organisms. Children can then complete the activities that go along with the passage. There is an answer key provided to help you take the guess work out of it.

February 28,2022

Hello everyone, I am starting this blog to help all those that have children they teach. I am talking about teachers, parents, and grandparents. We all want what is best for our children, but can find it time consuming to find resources. I want you to join me on this adventure in finding great resources for Free or cheaply. Check back to see what is coming!

I am a teacher and have taught 12 years. I spent 10 years in 5th grade and 2 years in 3rd grade. I decided in 2018 that I wanted to start my own business tutoring children. I saw a great need in the area that I live in. I began the business in 2019 and have loved every minute with the wonderful children I serve.
